Records Review – 3/10/2021

This 2008 Citation XLS was flown in revenue service since it was delivered as a new aircraft. Its engines have been through an overhaul and the airframe through heavy inspections. The books were found to be in excellent order. The aircraft had quite a bit of maintenance over the years, but nothing chronic or repeated – which represents the quality of maintenance services. The condition of the aircraft was good – great considering its life in revenue service. It was about to undergo paint and interior upgrades.

I’m grateful to WestStar Aviation in Chattanooga for giving me the opportunity to perform this records review. My visit was in the middle/end of the COVID Pandemic, so few people were traveling. WestStar’s hangars were packed with aircraft by owners who wanted maintenance performed during this downtime. This facility has extensive maintenance capabilities, including paint and interior.

The Cessna Citation XLS is a mid-light size aircraft with PW500 engines like found on the Phenom300, but with a higher thrust rating. Its cabin is shared with the Sovereign and Citation X models, but originates from the Citation III, first certified in April 1982. An APU was optional on this aircraft model.
